E-TRACE: Toxicology Research and community education

Vision

Reduction of risks of humans, animals and environment from agrochemical toxicitants by creating awareness and providing information about toxic effects its prevention and mitigation.

Vision

To be a comprehensive and unique nodal centre for providing information about the toxic effects of various agrochemicals used in India and provide the strategic approach of their identification and management strategy; creating awareness in farmers and pest handlers about safe practices. The ultimate mission is zero preventable death because of agrochemicals.

Agriculture in developing countries like India suffers most because of the high incidence of various pests. In India, estimated annual production losses due to pests are as high as US$ 42.66 million. Due to which dependency on agrochemicals has increased manyfold parralelly effecting non-target species and even human beings. Every year, there are about 10,000 reported cases of pesticide poisoning in India due to lack of awareness and about the safe use of pesticides among farmers. This problem needs immediate attention for which it is important to regulate and encourage the use of cost-effective and environmentally safe pesticides, testing procedures (parameters, labs, actors, etc.) and awareness among farmers are necessary for avoiding the adverse impacts. So to provide the proper guidance through information sources and awareness programs about the agrochemical safety to the farmers and the local people SGT-eTRACE is developed. Its going to be one of the unique centre in India which will specifically focus on agrochemical toxicity.

SGT- eTRACE

SGT University is a premium institution taking responsibility to nurture the NextGen leaders to attain an academic excellence. Agrochemical toxicity is a very sensitive uniform issue of social relevance and there is no as such centre providing awareness about safe use of agrochemicals in north India. We therefore envisage this centre which acts as a compliment and supplement to decrease the side effect of agrochemical toxicity to farmers. Our objective is to bring the toxicity level to zero. SGT- eTRACE provides science-based information about a wide variety of agrochemical toxicity including information on the recognition and management of pesticide poisonings, toxic and environmental hazards of agrochemicals and pesticide products.

Help we provide

·         Understanding the technical/chemical information on the labels
·         Assessing toxicity and risks of agrochemicals
·         Exploring possible alternatives
·         Learning about safe-use practices
·         Identifying the signs of pesticide poisoning
·         Obtaining general information on pesticide regulations

SGT University is a premium institution taken responsibility to nurture the NextGen leaders to attain an academic excellence. Agrochemical toxicity is a very sensitive uniform issue of social relevance. The Faculty of Agricultural sciences and the department of environmental sciences has realized that in Northern part of India there is no centre providing awareness about safe use of agrochemicals.
