Guest Lecture held on February 23, 2017 by Dr. I.S. Yadav
A lecture on post-harvest technology and value addition of Medicinal and Aromatic plants was organized by the FAS on 23.02.2017. The keynote speaker of the lecture was Dr. I.S. Yadav, Prof. & Head (Retd.), Department of Genetics and Plant Breading CCSHAU, Hisar. The main focus of the lecture was on the cultivation, processing, standardization, storage and marketing of the medicinal and aromatic plants.
The speaker emphasized upon the use of true to type of propagating material so that maximum benefit/ effect can be drawn from their use. He also threw light on the important plants grown in south and north Haryana explaining the different agro-ecology He enumerated different techniques for processing the raw material so that their potency can be preserved for longer period. He also explained some important precautions in production and processing of these plants. He also threw light on important plants which are grown and value added in Haryana. The main constraint in the production popularization was unorganized marketing and lack of proper and technical information. The important plants discussed by the speaker were Stevia, Aswagandha, Isabgoal, safedmusli, and muletti.
The student’s interaction with the speaker was enthusiastic and they asked a lot of questions. Overall it was a great experience for one and all.
