Guest lecture on Let Self-Culture be a Way of life
A lecture entitled ‘Let Self-Culture be a Way of life’ was delivered by Dr. S.P.S. Guleria (Former Prof. & Head, Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan). The speaker cited his real life experiences to explain the topic, which made it all the way more interesting. He primarily emphasized that self-culture:
- is the only way to create bonds of fraternity
- Imparts training at grass root level
- is also required for skill enhancement
He also explained the importance of rural women and considered them the best example of self culture. He also cited various examples where these women have proved themselves innovative by producing various house-hold products that can be consumed by great interest. Some of these include tomato-potato Vadis, apple jam etc.
He also shared his experience with the prisoners
of Tihar jail when he was there to impart them training on ‘Fruit and vegetable preservation’ for skill enhancement. He successfully trained them to prepare apple jam without aid of any equipment as no equipments were allowed to be taken inside the jail premises.
In all it was an interesting and inspiring talk where he emphasized the importance of rural mass and that a lot can be learnt from them.
