Faculty of Agricultural Sciences is going to conduct a webinar on “Sustainable Pests Management of Kharif Crops (Bajra, Guar, Moong)” on 26th June, 2021. In the pre-green revolution era, the estimates of losses caused by pests in these cops were 18%, and the figure jumped to over 50% in the post-green revolution era. This was due to the development of new insects and pests. Despite a clear increase in pesticide use, crop losses have not significantly decreased during the last 40 years. However, pesticide use has enabled farmers to modify production systems and to increase crop productivity without sustaining the higher losses likely to occur from an increased susceptibility to the damaging effect of pests. By using Sustainable Pests Management or Integrated Pests Management practices we can minimize the pests problem in these crops. We will describe Sustainable Pest Management strategies in this webinar so that farmers can lower their production costs while also increasing crop yields, also reducing the problem of mono-cropping.
